Lim Tayar - Caring about your families' safety
- Written by Teacher Natalie
Stay safe on the road!
There is an old Malay saying that goes: “biar lambat, asalkan selamat”. It simply means that it is alright to take it slow, as long as you reach your destination safely. But reaching your destination unharmed requires more than that! Following road rules, understanding your car functions, and simply being courteous road users will all play a huge part in keeping you safe.
When we spoke with the team at Lim Tayar about our family day, road safety was the prime message they wanted to bring to our families. It quickly became clear that we resonate the same objectives: Placing families' values and safety above all else.

Keep your eyes peeled on the road…signs!
(and on the road too)
We go about life as adults wishing for signs that warn us about what’s to come. Imagine waking up one day, and a sign pops up on the ceiling above the bed that says: “BAD DAY AHEAD” or “WATCH OUT FOR LATECOMERS”.
Wouldn’t we all feel better prepared for our day then?
But if you stop to think about it, we DO get warning signs ahead of time... on the road!
What fun our children and their parents had searching and pointing out the correct road signs as we belt out the various things to look out for. “Hump ahead!” “No entry!” “Towing zone!”.
Oh don’t we all need to be reminded of that last one, haha!

A Waze data showed that an average Malaysian spends approximately 1hour and 12minutes each day on the road. That averages to about 24hours a month (& we’re not including peak traffic time here!). While it is all wishful thinking to expect the same warning signs in life, in actual fact… we DO get them on the road on which we spend significant hours of our daily lives.
Now do you see the importance of educating our little ones all about road safety signs?

Check out my tip top car!
One of the first few things we learnt when establishing a safe classroom includes keeping away sharp objects, childproofing the doors, minimising corners, and of course a hundred more other things on the checklist. Classrooms should be safe spaces for the children, as much as we can make it out to be.
It is very much like cars that transport our loved ones like precious little cargos each day. Have we ensured that our cars are safe for our family? If that is not something you do frequently, we have recruited our little ones to be your daily reminders!
On Family Day, they have been taught to check if the honk is working, if the seat belts are functioning, if the indicator lights are blinking and if mirrors are well adjusted. So if you have been getting a CAR SAFETY 101 lecture every morning by your child, you know where it all came from!

Lim Tayar has not only contributed to precious fun moments at our Family Day, but they have successfully imparted practical, everyday knowledge for our children and our families. If anything, they’ve taught us that the littlest of things we do could safeguard the life of the biggest, most precious things of our lives: our family.
